Corrective actions overview

Corrective actions overview

There are two types of corrective actions. The first type, “Immediate Corrective Actions”, are assigned from the initial incident report. They are remedial actions taken at the time of the incident. They can be Open or Closed. Once the incident report is submitted, notifications for the Open status - Immediate Corrective Actions, will be sent to the assigned administrators.

The second type of corrective actions arise from the investigation process. Corrective actions focus on addressing the root cause of the incident. Each root cause found in the investigation requires at least one “Corrective Action.”  The investigation must be completed, submitted, and approved prior to sending Open - Corrective Action notifications to the assigned administrators.

Note: These corrective actions will only appear in the Corrective Actions screen once the investigation has been approved.

All corrective actions appear in the “Corrective Actions” page. There are five statuses:

Submitted: Open corrective actions from the initial incident report or from the investigation.

In progress: Corrective actions with updated progress notes that remain incomplete.

Scheduled: Completed corrective actions scheduled for future review to assess effectiveness.

Overdue: Open actions, either “Submitted” or “In Progress” which are past their due by date.

Closed: Completed actions and completed “Scheduled” actions.

Note: When all corrective actions are completed (i.e. in the "Scheduled" or "Closed" statuses), the corresponding incident will automatically progress to "Awaiting to be closed" status for review and closure.
