Duplicate ABN when contractor company is registering

To prevent duplicate registrations from contracting companies, we typically permit only one registration per ABN. This guarantees that the designated administrator has access to the Contractor Portal, streamlining the process of updating documents and compliance requirements within a single portal.


If a contracting company has successfully registered (whether active or deactivated), this action will consume their ABN. Consequently, if a second registration is submitted for the contracting company, the registration process will be blocked at the ABN stage because a previous registration has already been established.

If a company has advised they are receiving the duplicate ABN error, we recommend searching for the company on the Contractor Manager dashboard to see where the original registration is sitting. You can identify the original registration by clicking into the profile and viewing the ABN on the profile. Please see below steps to proceed depending on the circumstance:

  • Company is active: Click into the company name and review who the contractor administrator is for the registration. We recommend updating this to the relevant administrator if this has changed to ensure it is assigned to the relevant person. Once actioned, ensure to deactivate the duplicate registration send (sitting in the “Awaiting Registration” status circle).
  • Company is deactivated: Reactivate the original registration and review who the contractor administrator is for the registration. We recommend updating this to the relevant administrator if this has changed to ensure it is assigned to the relevant person. Once actioned, ensure to deactivate the duplicate registration send (sitting in the “Awaiting Registration” status circle).
