Rapid Aware Server Admin Page

Configuring the network with the Admin page

1. Plug a monitor, keyboard and mouse into the server

Note that the server might have several HDMI ports. We should try them all to see if any work. Try the port on the GPU first, then if that doesn’t work try the one on the motherboard (if there is one).

If there are issues with the screen showing nothing please follow below:

  1. If the server already has the monitor plugged in, try removing and re-inserting the monitor cable
  2. Wait up to 1 minute to see if the desktop environment loads
  3. If it doesn’t load, power the server off and on
  4. After booting, wait up to 1 minute for the desktop environment to load

Once the desktop environment has loaded, a chrome browser window will open to the Admin page.

2. Copy device UUID

Copy the device UUID from the Overview page. This UUID is the default password used to login to the Network page.

3. Login to the network page

Use:
  1. Username: admin
  2. Password: {Device UUID copied from Overview page}

4. Modify the network settings

The network page will display available network devices and their configuration. You can either set the device to use DHCP or use a static IP address.

Configure DHCP

If the customer network has internet access and uses DHCP, then select the DHCP option. There is a toggle for setting whether a connection allows the computer to connect to the internet or not. For most DHCP connections, this should be left enabled.

Configure Static IP

If the customer network requires a Static IP address, the select Static IP and enter the IP address details. The gateway IP address should be the IP address of the router on the network. The DNS value can be set to the router on the network, or to a public DNS server (eg 8.8.8.8 for Google’s public DNS servers).

Multiple connections

A typical setup is for a machine to have multiple network connections:
  1. First connection to a network with internet access and configured with DHCP
  2. Second connection to a dedicated camera LAN, which often does not have internet access and devices use static IP addresses
In this scenario, the connection to the internet enabled network should be configured with DHCP, and the connection to the camera LAN should be configured with a static IP and the Allow internet access setting should be disabled.

To make this setup clearer, you can rename connections from the Network page. It is a good idea to change the name of the camera LAN to make it clear that it is a dedicated network without internet access.

5. Update the network settings

Click the “Update” button to update the network settings on the connection.
